Specialty: Individual Adult Therapist

credentials: MA LMFT (MA in Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy)

License: #LF61429911

I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with a BA in Psychology and Masters of Arts in Couples and Family Therapy. I work with college students, young adults, and individuals phasing through life transitions, navigating change, and developing their identity and self-esteem. I support adults growing in academic and professional environments as we collaboratively forge therapy-guided strategies to support empowering narratives and sustainable mindsets.

My goal in therapy is to support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tendencies, academic and professional related stress, navigating identity development and life transitions, and seeking to overcome generational trauma and family tension. I enjoy working with clients looking to obtain greater self-worth and healing trauma to further facilitate having a healthy relationship with oneself as well as others. This can often look like setting boundaries, understanding feelings at a deeper, more holistic level, taking responsibility and learning how to advocate for yourself, and improving interpersonal communication skills.

I like to think of myself as your handy Swiss Army knife, available with the different tools and resources you may need to navigate each day and the challenges you face as they come. I view my sessions as structured conversations, led by my clients’ goals. I bridge my sunny, non-judgemental disposition and therapy-minded strategies with a laid back approach to empower my clients to take charge of their unique healing journey and ultimately build a sustainable self-worth and positive mental wellbeing.
In my free time, I’m exuberantly passionate about travel, exploring the world around me, and getting to know new people. Beyond travel, I like to see myself as a hobby enthusiast, intermingling my (now a little rusty) classical training in opera with other creative outlets, such as painting and embroidery.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tendencies, academic and professional related stress, navigating identity development and life transitions, and seeking to overcome generational trauma and family tension
  • Improving self-worth through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-minded solutions
  • Enhance communication skills, setting boundaries, and advocating for self

Who I Support:

  • Individual Adults
  • Couples
  • LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Professionals
  • BIPOC

Ali Afrasiabi

Specialty: Family, Individual Adult & Relationship Therapist

credentials: MA LMHCA (MA in Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate)

License: #MC61280136

I am an LMHCA (Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate) with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and BS in Biological Sciences. I will meet you where you are on your journey and provide a safe and supportive space to help you process life’s challenges and transform your life. My philosophy centers around the idea that therapy is not only about addressing deficits but also recognizing and amplifying the strengths we already possess. Together, we will explore the role your history plays in shaping your life and use that valuable information to work towards achieving your goals. No matter what has happened in the past or what the future holds, I firmly believe that the present moment holds profound wisdom for each of us as we navigate our unique paths.

In my work with Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma, I employ a diverse range of approaches to cater to each individual client’s needs. Essential to the therapeutic process is providing psychoeducation, validating their feelings, and normalizing their behaviors, which serves as a catalyst for change. Developing a comprehensive self-care plan is crucial, encompassing aspects such as sleep, nutrition, hobbies, and a supportive social network.

With each client, I customize my approach to suit their specific needs. Based on my experience, I often find that anxiety and depression have roots in a client’s family of origin and unresolved trauma. In addressing these issues, I integrate unconditional positive regard, congruence, and empathy with mindfulness techniques. For trauma, I utilize a combination of parts work (IFS) and polyvagal therapy, which helps in reframing the client’s narrative.

For addressing anxiety and depression, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. My approach is inherently strength-based, focusing on harnessing the client’s positive qualities and resilience as valuable resources to overcome their challenges. My approach is a flexible blend of various methodologies, adapted to each client’s unique circumstances and needs, aiming to foster growth, healing, and positive change.

During my free time, I enjoy engaging in various activities such as basketball, hiking, walking, listening to music, and continuous learning.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Improving self-awareness in order to develop individual coping skills
  • Building confidence for youth to feel empowered and supported
  • Helping individuals identify the impact symptoms have on everyday life

Ammanfil Oreta

Specialty: Individual Adult Therapist

credentials: MA LMHC (MA in Licensed Mental Health Counselor)

License: #LH61463390

I am Ammanfil (Pronounced Aw-Min-Phil), and I am an LMHCA (Licensed Mental Health Counselor). I am deeply passionate about trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder work, mindfulness, and challenging toxic shame narratives that may hinder personal growth. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, embracing their intersectional identities. I particularly enjoy guiding college students, Millennials, and Gen Z individuals in their journey of self-discovery, skill development, motivation enhancement, and overcoming obstacles to lead more fulfilling lives.

In my work with Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma, I tailor my approach to each client’s unique journey. By drawing from various perspectives and orientations, I personalize the therapeutic process to meet their specific needs and goals. Often, symptoms and challenges have deeper roots in underlying meanings, patterns, or past traumas, requiring ongoing exploration and processing. I focus on providing essential psychoeducation while encouraging self-exploration and self-awareness. This empowers the client to take ownership of their progress and engagement in the therapeutic journey. Together, we work on skill development, including emotional regulation, self-care, and distress tolerance, alongside fostering self-compassion and kindness toward oneself. A significant aspect of my approach involves utilizing inner child and parts work to facilitate shifts in perspectives and effectively process challenging emotions and experiences.

I know, in my own way, what feeling lonely is like. Navigating relationships, both with others and with myself, proved challenging as I lacked a consistent source of emotional support, attentive listening, and guidance while also having my own life experiences. Becoming a therapist was my way of becoming the therapist, role model, and mentor I wish I had growing up. I create a safe space that fosters self-discovery and allows people to draw closer to their true selves. By offering perspective and education, I aim to inspire greater compassion and understanding within them.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Processing and understanding PTSD, trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression along with increasing self-awareness and education
  • Mindfulness, Humanistic, and eclectic person-centered approach to increase self-compassion and self-care practices
  • Work with American Asians and Pacific Islanders and other BIPOC members, Queer and Trans folx, immigrants, first and second-generation, and college students in overcoming barriers towards fulfillment and goals

I came to this work the long way ‘round and bring a great deal of life experience to my practice as a counselor. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate or an LMHCA. This means that I have a Master of Arts in Counseling, have completed an internship, and am now a practicing counselor working under the supervision of a fully licensed therapist as I collect the required state hours of direct client work to become fully licensed myself. I believe passionately that, often, we need to know we have someone in our corner who can provide us with a place to go where we can show up as we are, where we are. I am committed to helping adults process and heal life’s challenges so they can come to know and accept themselves and create a life that is rich and meaningful.

I work primarily with Anxiety and Depression, Parenting, Self-Esteem, ADHD, and ADD among other things. Typically I approach these issues from the point of view Acceptance and Commitment therapy which involves identifying personal values, setting goals, and creating action plans. I also practice mindfulness exercises with clients that assist with calming nervous systems and allowing space for whatever thoughts and feelings are showing up.
I find immense joy in truly connecting with my clients and valuing their stories. My purpose is to create a safe and supportive space where they can freely share their challenges, experiences, and aspirations. It’s about understanding what they’ve tried, what’s working, and what isn’t. I cherish witnessing their authentic selves, allowing them to be fully present during our sessions. My primary focus is on them and their journey toward building a thriving and meaningful life. While therapy can be challenging at times, the rewards of growth and self-discovery make it a truly transformative experience.

During my free time, I cherish moments spent with my family, kids, and husband. I also indulge in my passion for playing Dungeons and Dragons and exploring MMOs.

Marcella (Cella) Oreta

Specialty: Individual Adult & Relationship Therapist

credentials: MS LMFT (MS in Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy)

License: #LF61468927

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), a provisional marriage and family therapy license, working under the guidance of an approved, certified supervisor. I primarily work with teens, individual adults, and families seeking support and resources to cope with stress, recover from burnout, managing depression and anxiety, addressing body image and overcoming eating disorders, and repairing family dynamics to experience healing within relationships.

My professional approach is combining the knowledge of counseling, psychology, etc. into a humanistic approach. I work to help clients create an informative space where they can simply show up as themselves with their concerns and learn as they heal, process, etc. My approach allows clients to solely focus on showing up as their authentic selves – the therapeutic space will do the rest through the process, pointing out themes, patterns, and dynamics for clients to reflect on and make active decisions about for their future.

I approach my profession with an authentic understanding of related issues, embracing my personal story of dysfunctional family dynamics and ever-improving mental wellness to reflect the value and importance of the investment and counseling relationship. That said, I also see therapy as a space to unveil the seriousness and gravity of life’s complexity, and highly encourage humor and lightheartedness as we build relationships and cultivate your mental wellness journey.

In my free time, I seek out dynamic and contrasting interests, from connecting with Mother Nature through hikes and fiercely dominating rec sports (or at least trying to) to cracking jokes with friends and binge-watching trashy TV.

I am bilingual in English and Portuguese and am open to taking clients in either language at this time.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Establish, embrace, and encourage healthy relationship building with others and with ourselves
  • Improve teen self-esteem, body image concerns, overcome eating disorders, and navigate transitional development in life and identity
  • Solution-driven systems to manage stress, depression, and anxiety

Life is about transitions, changing and growing in ways we don’t expect, don’t understand, and sometimes don’t enjoy very much, nonetheless always striving to become something more than we are right now. I’ve experienced many transitions in fifty years of life, and I’ve come to realize that we are going to change in some kind of way. The greatest question is will we let life sweep us along, or will we choose to aim for a destination, collecting stories and wisdom – and yes, more than a few scars – as we go? (Spoiler: Letting life sweep us along is not a failing; sometimes we want to explore randomly, and sometimes we have only just enough energy to avoid the largest obstacles until we can rest up and start finding our way again.)

By my training and my own life experiences, I help clients recognize the difference between wandering and traveling, understand when each is appropriate, develop methods for identifying destinations, and learn skills to optimize choices. As a counselor, I am an educator and a guide, providing skills and facilitating understanding of what you are experiencing. As a client, you are the only expert on you, where you’ve been, where you are at, and where you might like to go. Together, we will work collaboratively to help you choose your destination and begin the transition from being here to going there.

My philosophy of counseling is solidly person-centered and holistic. Everything you have experienced and are experiencing contributes to who you are, and yet does not define you. Your identity of Self is yours and yours alone, at the core always a person, innately worthy of dignity and respect. My theoretical orientation is somewhat eclectic – no two people are facing the same challenges in the same way, and no single theory or intervention will always be the best fit for each client. My practice is anchored in Strengths-based Therapy and heavily influenced by Narrative Therapy, Writing Therapy, Imaginal Rehearsal Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Creative Expression Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy, and more.

I will introduce concepts such as radical self-awareness, radical self-acceptance, and radical self-love; dialectic thinking; cognitive distortion; response flexibility; identity of Self, self-confidence, self-efficacy, and self-actualization; locus of control; spheres of influence; internal scripts, how to recognize them, and how to rewrite them; psychosomatic manifestations; emotions as information; unconditional positive regard; core values; resilience; learned survival behaviors; and so much more. During session, we will talk (a lot!), we will discuss perceptions and biases, and we will practice many skills such as square breathing, somatic referencing, and butterfly hugs.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Improving self-awareness, self-knowledge, mindfulness, and understanding of personal values
  • Rewriting personal narratives
  • Helping adults with anxiety, depression, self-esteem and -efficacy, and body-image challenges
  • Boundaries – identifying, communicating, holding, and flexing.
  • Nonviolent communication

Specialty: Child, Teen, Family, Individual Adult & Relationship Therapist

credentials: MSW LSWAIC (Master of Social Work in Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker)
License: #SC61098366

I am an ILSWAIC (Independent Clinical Licensed Social Worker Associate) with a BA in Middle Eastern Studies, Anthropology and a Masters of Social Work. I decided to become a therapist after living and working in low-income communities throughout my life. Witnessing the stark lack of mental health services for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities fueled my passion for making a difference. In my work with adult clients, I prioritize warmth, humor, collaboration, and non-judgment to truly understand each person as an individual and foster a strong therapeutic relationship.

My professional interests and experiences lie in the following areas: Trauma, Depression, Gender-Based/Sexual/Emotional Abuse, Neurodivergence (ADHD, ASD, etc.), Relationship Issues, Life Transitions, and Self-Esteem.

In my approach to treating trauma, I prioritize earning respect and trust while building a solid therapeutic relationship with my clients. We proceed gradually and safely, exploring concerns related to their trauma background. I emphasize the importance of patience and self-compassion during trauma work, as it may unearth past mental wounds that have long been suppressed, repressed, or ignored.

Similarly, my approach to treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other concerns mirrors my trauma treatment. I focus on earning respect and trust while fostering a strong therapeutic relationship. I provide clients with a safe space to lead their therapeutic journey. As a therapist, my role is to support them in identifying unhealthy patterns that have led to their suffering or distress, empowering them to make positive changes in their lives.

During my free time, I enjoy indulging in various interests, including science fiction/fantasy, comics, console gaming, tattoos, dark humor, movies, bouldering, and going on walks.

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, gender-based violence, and other challenges
  • Rebuild trust with friends, family and romantic relationships; decrease negative effects of compulsive activities; and identify and work towards goals in a safe space

Desirée Silapaxay

Specialty: Individual Adults, Professionals, Teens

credentials: MSW LICSW (Master Of Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work)

License: #LW61471379

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). My focus is identifying how an individual functions in the different systems they must navigate daily. I support individuals in coping with the stress, anxiety, depression, or other feelings and thoughts that may come with this. I work with individuals who wish to explore self- identity and learn self-compassion. I support people writing their own story while honoring the history of those that came before.

I create a holistic approach by pulling from therapeutic practices that are solution-focused, person-centered, strengths-based, and mindful. This may look like collaboration around problem-solving and identifying factors in our environments that impact us and how to address them. I emphasize caring for our mental health as much as our physical health as they are deeply intertwined.

My goal is to create a space where people feel comfortable to share their deepest emotions and thoughts, address burnout or moral injury, and prioritize their well-being. I emphasize duality in life and the notion that two things can exist at the same time; for example, space to fulfill your life obligations while still caring for and nurturing yourself.

I approach this therapeutic space using my personal experiences from navigating complex family dynamics, creating boundaries, and defining my identity. As Dr. Thema would say, “This is your homecoming. You are returning to yourself one sacred breath at a time.”

Goals, Focuses & Strategies:

  • Improving mindfulness and self-awareness of how environments impact our well-being, and our role in this
  • Assisting with life transitions i.e. family conflict, college, new job, new relationships, leaving home
  • Helping individuals with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate or an LMHCA. I have a master’s degree in psychology. I did my internship on the psychiatric unit of a hospital and I wrote my master’s thesis on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In 35 years of professional experience, I have been an adjunct professor at a college teaching psychology classes, I have counseled hundreds of individuals and I heard a lot of painful life experiences. Even though I have had a lot of leadership roles, what I enjoy most is spending my day counseling and coaching with individual clients.

I take a laid-back approach to counseling and give my clients the space to explore life at their own pace. I am non-judgmental, creative and curious. I like to work with you to find the skills and resources that help you reach your goals.

My ultimate goal is that with each interaction, you walk away certain of these defining values:

  1. You are not late to the party. You are right on time.
  2. You are awesome even on your worst day. Bad days come and go but you are always awesome.
  3. You are enough. You just don’t know it yet. Give me 90 days and you’ll see!
  4. Not everything is your fault. If it is, own it. If it’s not, let it go. Be honest enough to know the difference.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist with 12 years of experience, my expertise lies in studying how individuals function within systems, specifically relationships, which was a significant focus during my graduate school training. I work with individuals who are eager to gain self-insight and enhance their overall quality of life.

My approach is holistic, as I strive to understand each person’s background and acknowledge the strengths they already possess, tailoring therapy to their unique needs. I firmly believe that establishing a strong alliance with my clients is crucial for maximizing the benefits of therapy and fostering lasting change. Through this collaborative alliance, I partner with my clients to explore and address thought and behavior patterns that may hinder them from fully enjoying life.

In therapy, my approach centers around creating a safe and trusting space where individuals can freely share their deepest thoughts and emotions. I believe in providing unconditional positive regard to everyone I work with. Together, we identify patterns of dysfunction and collaboratively seek ways to change unwanted or unhelpful behaviors. I aim to empower people, helping them find their voice so they can confidently express their wants and needs in life.

The three values that guide my life are integrity, compassion, and kindness. I believe in approaching others with kindness, assuming that people are doing their best. Understanding that many individuals have experienced trauma allows me to meet gruff, hard, or angry people with compassion.

I recognize the significance of reducing anxiety and stress by providing predictability and reliability. Therefore, I strive to follow through with my commitments and do my best to fulfill what I say I will do.
